FAQ

Do military members have to pay any fee for leave or fiancee forms?
NOOOOOOO. You are talking to a military romance scammer. I received an email from the US Army that directly answers your question that is pasted below please keep reading.I believe you are the victim of a military Romance Scam whereas the person you are talking to is a foreign national posing as an American Soldier claiming to be stationed overseas on a peacekeeping mission. That's the key to the scam they always claim to be on a peacekeeping mission.Part of their scam is saying that they have no access to their money that their mission is highly dangerous. If your boyfriend girlfriend/future husband/wife is asking you to do the following or has exhibited this behavior, it is a most likely a scam:Moves to private messaging site immediately after meeting you on Facebook or SnapChat or Instagram or some dating or social media site. Often times they delete the site you met them on right after they asked you to move to a more private messaging siteProfesses love to you very quickly & seems to quote poems and song lyrics along with using their own sort of broken language, as they profess their love and devotion quickly. They also showed concern for your health and love for your family.Promises marriage as soon as he/she gets to state for leave that they asked you to pay for. They Requests money (wire transfers) and Amazon, iTune ,Verizon, etc gift cards, for medicine, religious practices, and leaves to come home, internet access, complete job assignments, help sick friend, get him out of trouble, or anything that sounds fishy. The military does prall the soldier needs including food medical Care and transportation for leave. Trust me, I lived it, you are probably being scammed. I am just trying to show you examples that you are most likely being connned.Below is an email response I received after I sent an inquiry to the US government when I discovered I was scammed. I received this wonderful response back with lots of useful links on how to find and report your scammer. And how to learn more about Romance Scams.Right now you can also copy the picture he gave you and do a google image search and you will hopefully see the pictures of the real person he is impersonating. this doesn't always work and take some digging. if you find the real person you can direct message them and alert them that their image is being used for scamming.Good Luck to you and I'm sorry this may be happening to you. please continue reading the government response I received below it's very informative.   You have contacted an email that is monitored by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command. You have the chance to fill out the money amount in a blank check. But you will have to use it in order to improve your life, your family's life and your friends' life. How much money would you ask for?
Just like User, I am doing quite well already, even though I do have to work. Then again, the question asks to improve not only my life but the life of my family and friends as well. Why not go one further? I'd like to improve the life of humanity as a whole. I'd ask for 30,000 euros so I could easily live for the duration of one year and could still invest in some small things. Then I would try to set up the Dutch branch of Circle of Reason. I firmly believe that everyone's life becomes better by becoming just a bit more rational than we are already. I would add my knowledge of and experience with mindfulness to the mix. I would set up a good website or really pay someone else to help me with that. I would invest some small amount of money in publicity. On top of that, I would fill the hours I had left over with volunteer work, probably for the Red Cross, since I already work for them. I'm sorry I can't give you a breakdown of the total amount, it is a guesstimate. I don't need anything for myself so it was hard to think of exact numbers.
I have two 1TB hard drives, one full, and the other one blank. How can I copy all the files over including boot records?
You can copy a complete disk image using for example Macrium Reflect. This would make the copy bootable the same way your original disk. The disks do not even need to be the same size.http://www.macrium.com/
Can you copy a blank subpoena that was stamped and signed by the court and serve it multiple times with different information and dates filled out (California)? Or do you need a new one stamped by the court for each subpoena you want to serve?
No.You cannot copy the blank subpoena.Even when a notary is willing to swear that the blank subpoena copy of the blank subpoena is a “true copy”, if you modify it after it is notarized, it’s no longer valid. In a criminal procedure ‡ which is the only way either the prosecution or defense will get a blank subpoena issued by the court ‡ you will need one issued per each service, and must fill in the blanks on the original, court-supplied subpoena.Usually, it will have an embossed seal which you would not be able to duplicate anyway. All of this is covered under:Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure › TITLE IV. ARRAIGNMENT AND PREPARATION FOR TRIAL › Rule 17. SubpoenaThis is something you should have discussed with your attorney.
On any number of blank multiple choice questions, is it better to fill in each answer with the same answer (e.g., "C" over and over), or fill out each answer randomly?
Let us take the CFA L1 exam as an example:There are 240 three-choice questions (33% probability of a correct answer for each question).Assuming a passing score of 70%, we need to get at least 240 * 70% = 168 correct answers to succeed. If we pick all Cs (in the case of a 3-choice MCQ) we can expect a score of 33%*240 = 80 but we are sure to fail (assuming correct choices of As, Bs and Cs are equally distributed), while if we choose randomly, our expected score should also be 80 but our range of results will go from 0 to 240, so we should go for this option. For each chosen number of correct answers we have a binomial distribution with a mean of np = 240 * 33% = 80 and a standard deviation of [np(1-p)]^0.5 = 7.3. Therefore, the minimum threshold of 168 is about 12 σ away from the mean which means chances of succeeding by randomly picking As, Bs or Cs are infinitesimal. a) The probability of 168 correct answers in whatever order out of 240 questions is 240? * (1/168?) * [1/(240-168)?] * (33%^168) * [(1-33%)^(240-168)].We must also account for 169 correct answers, 170, 171... until 240, and sum all those amounts.b) We can also use the Excel BINOMDIST function and calculate 1 - BINOMDIST(167, 240, 1/3, TRUE) to find the cumulative probability from 168 to 240 correct answers. We find a very small figure of order E-15 (which happens to be negative, should be positive, probably Excel cannot handle such a small figure). This is the probability to succeed in passing the CFA L1 exam by randomly choosing between As, Bs or Cs.As a conclusion, we have the choice between picking all Cs (0% success rate) and picking randomly between As, Bs and Cs (infinitesimal success rate, but infinitely better than 0%).The smart choice is the second one, and the real smart choice is to study for the exam.
When is the right time to ask a girl out on a date?
This is like asking when is the right time to start eating healthy, exercising, and budgeting yourself. THERE IS NEVER A RIGHT TIME. Those who have a vision for their lives go and proactively make that vision happen. That being said, here is a process for you:•Before you even approach the dating world, make sure you are quality material that you can market for girls. I know that sounds really fucking weird, but it's necessary. You don't go looking for a job in a t-shirt and ripped jeans. Don't go looking for a girl who you want to bounce on top of you until you have made adequate preparations in the world of hygiene and fitness. Even more important than this, work on your body language and facial expressions. Girls give a major fuck about these things. It's how animals truly communicate. Before you start dating, you better have some funds in the bank you can spend on her. Don't ask someone out then waste her time by not being in a position where you can really show her some fun. And for the most important aspect of self-branding, know exactly who you are and what you want in life. If you don't know this, then there's no good reason a girl would date you. From their point of view, why would they date someone who has no idea where they want to live and how they want to live? It's risky for their future planning.•Pick a girl. I mean pick a girl. Don't just ask girls out who you think are cute. Have a conversation with them first. Make sure there are not some major incompatibility issues before you go and intend to spend an entire night with them. And please do this one at a time. I have no problem with a sexually liberated lifestyle (actually I very much approve of it), but you can't get to know five girls at once. Get to know them one at a time.•Come up with a plan. Have a solid idea on how you're gonna ask her out. Doesn't matter if it's in person, over the phone or even on fucking Facebook. As long as it is thought-out (but not stiffly scripted) execution. Have a solid idea on what you want to do with her. Don't say "Hey you wanna go out some time?...uh, I dunno. What do you like to do?" Instead say, "Hey I heard about a really good Hookah bar and I wanted to check it out. Would you like to go with me?" The most important thing to understand about executing plans is IT NEVER GOES ACCORDING TO PLAN. This is totally fine. You learn to course-correct. The Apollo shuttles were off course a good 97%. You feel me?That's it. 1, 2, 3. Please spend the most amount of time on step 1 before step 2. Lincoln once said "ask me to chop down a tree and I'll spend 80% of my time sharpening the axe." Good luck.
Are there studies and graphs out there that examine the rise and fall of lung cancer as relates to the rise and fall of asbestos exposure?
Michael: There is a really good course on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention web site on asbestos and asbestosis, which looks at a host of lung ailments associated with exposure, and not only lung cancer. I have attached the tables figures section below. If you are interested in this field, it is worth taking the course in its entirety. As for whether rates of lung cancers are going down, it might be worth also checking the World Trade Center healthcare study, which is conducting a long-term follow-up study on both workers and Lower Manhattan residents and subsequent cancers and lung issues that may be associated with the 9/11 disaster. That study looks at other cancers as well.It is important to keep in mind that the long-term follow-up of largely males working in ship-building, or the construction trades, also has the nicotine /smoking exposure issue. For many patients it may take 20–30 years for the medical problems associated with asbestos exposure to surface. Mostly male workers had high rates of cigarette exposures, which does contribute to higher mortality and morbidity and often different cancer presentations. Complications from smoking may show up first.See: Asbestos ToxicitySee: WTC Health Registry - 9/11 Health
What happens to all of the paper forms you fill out for immigration and customs?
Years ago I worked at document management company.  There is cool software that can automate aspects of hand-written forms.  We had an airport as a customer - they scanned plenty and (as I said before) this was several years ago...On your airport customs forms, the "boxes" that you 'need' to write on - are basically invisible to the scanner - but are used because then us humans will tend to write neater and clearer which make sit easier to recognize with a computer.  Any characters with less than X% accuracy based on a recognition engine are flagged and shown as an image zoomed into the particular character so a human operator can then say "that is an "A".   This way, you can rapidly go through most forms and output it to say - an SQL database, complete with link to original image of the form you filled in.If you see "black boxes" at three corners of the document - it is likely set up for scanning (they help to identify and orient the page digitally).  If there is a unique barcode on the document somewhere I would theorize there is an even higher likelihood of it being scanned - the document is of enough value to be printed individually which costs more, which means it is likely going to be used on the capture side.   (I've noticed in the past in Bahamas and some other Caribbean islands they use these sorts of capture mechanisms, but they have far fewer people entering than the US does everyday)The real answer is: it depends.  Depending on each country and its policies and procedures.  Generally I would be surprised if they scanned and held onto the paper.   In the US, they proably file those for a set period of time then destroy them, perhaps mining them for some data about travellers. In the end,  I suspect the "paper-to-data capture" likelihood of customs forms ranges somewhere on a spectrum like this:Third world Customs Guy has paper to show he did his job, paper gets thrown out at end of shift. ------  We keep all the papers? everything is scanned as you pass by customs and unique barcodes identify which flight/gate/area the form was handed out at, so we co-ordinate with cameras in the airport and have captured your image.  We also know exactly how much vodka you brought into the country. :)
How exactly can I get out of this comfort zone by motivating myself?
10 Ways to Get out of your comfort zone:Give more money than you feel comfortable with away tomorrow (amount is usually relative on your current situation)Answer a call from an unknown number. Even better if it's a debt collectorDo something others are waiting for someone else to do. Today at the post office, there was a long line. There was no one answering the door there to pick up packages. People would come in, ring the bell and wait. All of us in line knew they were wasting their time, but said nothing because we didn't want to look weird. I didn't say anything, so I failed at this because I didn't want to "stand out"Invite someone you don't know to meet for coffee (someone in your field). Don't stop at a no response, wait for someone to say No or the more common "My schedule is very busy, maybe another time."(A polite No)Talk to someone in an elevator. It's regularly NEVER done by 99% of people. You'll find most people are really pleasant, but no one wants to say the first word.If a waiter or barista or anyone messes up something today (work included). Don't "be nice" and let it go. That's back talk for "not wanting to make waves." Be polite and ask them to correct the mishap. My wife, infant and I were out at a restaurant and a waiter hadn't greeted us to start for over 10 minutes. My inners were saying, "Oh, don't worry someone will notice you, just sit tight." That's your inner back talk "wimp" voice. So, I got up, went to the manager and told him (politely) to have a waiter sent over immediately. They offered us a free appetizer for the mishap.Every person you walk past today, give a smile and "hello." Most people wait for the other person and then it just looks sad as 2 glum faces make eye contact. We don't want to look too "eager" or "weird." Do it, most will return it.As Matt said, ask for a discount somewhere. It doesn't have to be Starbucks. I just had a late fee on a credit card. My inners are telling me, "you deserve it, just let it go." I swallowed, dialed the bank, asked them to remove the late fee, and they did. Ask and you shall receive. At any point in the day you realize you haven't exercised at all (typically when you're in a lazy position) immediately get up and do a set of 25 pushups. It's hard. I'll couple this willpower exercise with getting up right when the alarm goes off. Immediately. Not even 10 seconds later. Right away. It's this same muscle that pushes you that builds new habits.Write a FB status about a failure you've had, or a personal story about struggle (without the "feel sorry for me" feel to it). When no one comments, celebrate the rejection. I once posted a status about one of my most embarrassing moments in my life on FB (from HS, I was in a talent show, everyone was looking forward to our band playing, I couldn't hear myself over the drums, I knew I sounded terrible based on the looks in the crowd, so I faked a cough to get off stage). NO ONE commented on FB. Awkward.
